Water Polo is a fun and exciting sport and with the first three practices FREE there’s no reason not to give it a try. Grab some friends and join us!

Athletes should be able to swim unassisted for two lengths of the pool. For younger players & beginners, practice is held in the shallow end of the pool. We expect to participate in some Winter novice one day water polo tournaments fielding 10U mixed, 12U mixed and if enough players, even 14U.

Based on the athlete’s skill level, we structure practices on development of water polo skills and conditioning which will include drills that teach basic water polo elements that are critical for team play. For beginners we focus more on having fun, teamwork, listening skills, swimming w/ ball handling, passing, lots of egg beater practice and shooting.

Join today and pay only $150 for membership through February 1st. Annual club dues are $350 (Feb-Feb).

OUR SPRING PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY UP AND RUNNING for High School and Pre High School ages!

All new individuals who would be interested can attend 3 practices before committing.  After 3 practices individuals would then be expected to pay the team “dues”  There is only ONE charge to join, and that fee lasts from FEB. 1^st to JAN. 31^st 2025.  There is no prorating – same charge whenever you start.

PRACTICE INFORMATION – MARCH, APRIL, MAY 

HIGH SCHOOL AGE PLAYERS  

Starting MARCH 6^th and going Monday and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30pm

This is to prepare players for Junior Olympics.  Qualifying for Junior Olympics will take place in mid-June.  Those players who are interested in making the Junior Olympic team for MSWP need to try and make these practices.  If players would like to wait until the end of high school swimming the first week in May, that is fine. 

PRE-HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS

Those with Michelle will continue to practice Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 6:30pm. There are NO changes in their practice times.  

TOURNAMENTS

There are tournaments scheduled for March and April in Sacramento area – to be eligible to play in these and any tournaments, players MUST have registered with USAWP.  If you have not done so, our club number is 0176.  If you want to try and be on the Junior Olympic squad, you must be a gold level and registered by June 1^st and be AGE VERIFIED.  Those of you who have played in JO’s before you do not have to be age verified again.  The information for the pre-high school group playing in tournaments is the same.  All who need to registered need to go to USAWP.org and either renew or register at that site.

UNIFORMING

TEAM DUES

Team dues will be going UP at the end of APRIL to $400.  You are strongly encouraged to sign up currently, even if you are not beginning until the end of school.  The cost is $350 currently.  You can mail your dues to 2352 Roseborough Ct. Turlock, CA 95382.  Check can be made to MSWP, Inc.    There will be TWO larger meets at Johansen, March 15^th and April 1^st.  I will be in the pool office if you’d like to drop off your dues to me at that time.

REGISTRATION

This applies to those who played last year and are intending to do so again.  PLEASE RE-REGISTER at this time so we (at least) have an idea of who is planning on participating this year.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.  I know most would like to have a schedule, other than JO quals and actual JO’s that has been sent out a couple of times, the new one will be the first weekend in JUNE in Sanger area and will involve all age groups and genders.  If you are going to do the two a week workouts in April, May and second week in May we will be entering single day tournaments in Sacramento.

ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO PARTICIPATE

NOW is the time to get new, younger kids to give water polo a try.  Any new player can try THREE practices at no charge. With the addition of Michelle, we are able to take on younger participants.  We really need to take advantage of this while we have the opportunity. So, encourage others to give it a try.

PRACTICE TIMES FOR SUMMER

In preparation for summer practices that will begin MAY 30^th – – – barring any changes – – – BOYS high school age (and pre that have a grasp of the game) at DOWNEY from 7 to 9 – if the numbers are too large we also have the pool from 9 to 11 – – – GIRLS high school (and pre that have grasp of the game) at JOHANSEN from 7 to 9 – –  At this time all beginners will be at Johansen from 7 to 9 AM

14, 12 UNDER POSSIBLE COMBINING

The past few years we have had difficulty getting enough 12s and 14s to go to JO’s.  The rosters have been small with players getting little rest.  This year we are entertaining the idea of combining with Central Valley United as they are experiencing the same issues.  If we combine, we should have enough interest/players to have a large enough team.  In conversation with their director, they would like to have the girls from MSWP attend one practice a week in Turlock, while they would do the same coming to Modesto.  They would register with our club, and also pay our club dues.  More on this as we get closer.

Polo Practice Changes

February  

Starting on Monday, February 6^th practices will be changed as high school swimming begins. 

• For February, the pre-high school group will practice from 5pm to 6:30pm at Johansen on Monday’s & Wednesdays.  No practice on the holiday February 20^th. 
• This is also open to 1) high school members who are not doing swimmers 2) those who are on swim team but are able to come to practice. 
• This practice schedule will end March 1^st.

March   

• Starting March 6th, Michelle’s pre-High School group will continue with the Monday and Wednesday time. 
• We will also add the high school girl players at this time.   
• High school boy group will resume with Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 5:30 to 7:00. 
• Please mark your calendars – if you have a boy and girl participating you can bring them both at the same time if necessary.
• Spring break will happen for most during March – we will maintain the times listed above.

April and May will be the same until we will move to our summer times. 

Summer   At this time we are looking at Johansen for the girls and Downey for the boys from 7 to 9 AM.  There are a few other things we are working with… we will have updates soon.

USAWP Registration   If you have not renewed your USWP card, please take care of at this time.  Our club number is 176.

If you have never registered with USAWP, go to this site USAWATERPOLO.ORG and follow the prompts.  The level, if new, would be bronze.  Assuming you might be on the Junior Olympic team for this summer, you must be gold level.

When you register or renew be sure to do your AGE VERIFICATION at that time.  This is required, and the fee is only one time, so if you have done this, thank you

JUNIOR OLYMPICS 

June 10-11          JO Qualifying for 14s boys and girls as well as 12 and 10 boys, girls and mixed – Roseville area

June 16,17,18     JO Qualifying for 16 boys and girls and 18 boys and girls  –                                            Boys in Clovis, Girls in Merced

Texas is out – there was not enough interest to attend – if we qualify for JO’s, the games are in Orange County

July 15-18           JO’s  Orange County   Boys 12,14,16,18

July 20-23           JO’s Orange county    Girls 10,12,14,16,18, and Mixed 10s,12s and Girls 10

Dues – Dues for 2023 are due at this time. From now until April 30th the cost for the year is

USAWP registration has changed. In the past you registration was from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st. The
new system is from the date you received your registration and lasts for 365 days from that
point. When you register our club number is 0176

Regarding the tournaments for January/February… if you are interested you need to contact the coaches

Further information on this will be available at practice.

Once again wanting to see who might be interested in going to Session 3 of Junior Olympics in
Texas the last week of July. I recognize this is a ways away but I am requesting that if you
are interested in doing this please respond. We need a rough idea.

Regarding JO’s it will be held in Southern California mid July. Qualifying will take place the 2nd
week in June for all 14 and under teams, male and female. The 16-u and 18-u boys and girls will
be the 3rd week in June (the same weekend).
